Stand-out Restaurants I simply love, East London.

As a food enthusiast and a proud East Londoner, I've had the pleasure of discovering some hidden gems that have captured my heart and taste buds. Each restaurant on this list holds a special place in my heart and has left a lasting impression with every dish that I've had.

From beautiful restaurants to cosy cafes, East London has something for everyone, and I can't wait to share my favourite spots with you. So, come along with me as I showcase the best of the best and why these restaurants have earned a special place in my heart.

Perilla

Location: Newington Green

When you walk into Perilla you feel like you’re on holiday. With calm, modern and design-led features the interiors alone are worth a visit! I have had some incredible dishes here paired with beautiful wine (usually orange) or a cocktail. I’ve been mainly to celebrate an occasion, but it’s the perfect date night spot too!

Mare Street Market

Location: Mare Street, Hackney

When I think of Mare Street Market, I think of a full buzzy bar, with most spirits you could wish for, sharing plates, good pizza’s, a trendy shop that sells everything from spicy sauce, olives and coffee. It’s a place for laptop work, a date or catch ups - there’s always a dog somewhere there too - which is a bonus!

The Waterhouse Project

Location: Bethnal Green

We went for their short form tasting menu which was sensational, hosted by Gabriel Waterhouse himself. It was amazing to watch the chefs build each dish with such precision. It was fine dining but with a much more informal and relaxed atmosphere.

Crispin E1

Location: Spitalfields, Shoreditch

Ah Crispin, I have some great memories in this place so it holds a special place in my heart. The service, food and wine has never disappointed me and it’s a restaurant I still keep going back to time and time again.

Dudley’s

Location: Wood Street, Walthamstow

Dudley’s is known for it’s amazing brunch menu, but recently they started an evening service with an always changing menu by chef Michael Bagnall. Expect shareable plates, fresh seasonal ingredients and low intervention wines set to candlelight and world music. It is a vibe!!

temper

Location(s): Shoreditch, Soho, Covent Garden

Drunken Pig Tacos? (pictured) Hell yeah! Temper’s restaurants are vibrant smokehouses with open fire pits, extensive wine lists and an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs prepare, butcher and cook your food. The staff are amazing, steaks are cooked to perfection and the margarita’s are incredible too!

Elliot’s

Location: Mare Street, Hackney

Elliot’s is a low-key beautiful restaurant down the road from Broadway Market offering natural wine, locally sourced produce and wood fired pizza’s and bread - which are mega! Again, like most places on this list, it’s a great date night spot, ‘meeting the parents’ spot or just a chilled place to catch up with a friend.
